ODM is joining the international challenge and efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Its system has been adapted to provide an invaluable understanding of Covid-19, accelerating the research efforts into finding solutions for the benefit of individual patients and for society.
Moreover, ODM will enable governments and health organizations to be better prepared for another wave of Covid-19, as well as for future diseases that may very well be contained before they reach pandemic proportions. ODM will provide participating countries with a national medical data system that will handle, process, and analyze data collected by the country’s authorities.
Physicians and health care providers will have a decision support system to better diagnose and provide personalized treatment options for COVID-19 patients. Governmental decision-makers and heads of health organizations will be able to better manage, control, and prepare for pandemics (present and future), and other public health needs.
The platform supplies outputs, insights, and predictions that will assist health institutions, hospital directors, and physicians in the integration of high-throughput data from different sources, to better understand the overall picture, to better visualize the data, and make it more accessible for decision making.
On an individual level, the system’s outputs and predictions will assist physicians in COVID-19 diagnostics and will serve as a decision support system for prioritizing the treatment in COVID-19 positive individuals.
On a national level, the system will improve the utilization of medical resources and infrastructures, whilst contributing to the understanding of the disease, its mechanisms, and spread. Predictions provided by the ODM system will allow for the development of more efficient strategies in health-care systems and national policies. Moreover, these capabilities can increase the flexibility of countries’ healthcare systems by allowing for the implementation of customized small-scale strategies in different regions, based on their specific populations.
Objectives
ODM’s computational tool, based on artificial intelligence, and integrating machine learning and deep learning, will enable the collection and integration of massive amounts of medical data in different formats, from different sources, to provide high-level analysis and interpretation.
The tool will enable the following:
- Integration of all the data into a holistic database, which will enable user-friendly queries, data intersections, and data visualizations.
- Understanding associations between disease severity and other factors, such as race, age, and sex.
- Prediction of the infection risk, severity, recuperation, and survival.
- Discrimination between symptomatic and non-symptomatic cases.
- Provision of best-personalized treatment options.
- Analysis and prediction of disease development spread and future evolution on a population basis.
Benefits
Taking advantage of ODM’s capabilities immediately leads to enormous health and cost benefits, both on an individual and on a governmental basis:
For the government:
- Health and treatment tracking on a population basis.
- Efficient patient management resulting in a healthier population.
- A health infrastructure and resources planning, allocation, and investment tool based on defined present and future needs.
- Ability to efficiently prepare for emergency situations.
- Financial savings on an ongoing basis through preventive medicine (decreasing health care costs, lost productivity, and sick pay) and personalized medicine (avoiding ineffective treatments and the resulting costs of unnecessary drugs and increased hospitalization).
For the individual citizen:
- Health and treatment tracking on a routine basis.
- Disease prediction and prevention.
- Personalized medicine in case of a disease.
